《数学哲学》课程简介

数学哲学的基本问题是本体论、认识论等一般哲学问题在数学知识领域的反映。由于数学知识的特殊性,数学哲学成为各种哲学倾向的试验场,从传统的经验主义、理性主义、康德主义,到它们的种种现代变种,许多哲学流派都以能否回答关于数学的哲学问题作为它们的观点能否站得住脚的测试。数学哲学也与数理逻辑及数学基础研究密切相关。本课程将介绍二十世纪最主要的数学哲学流派,并尝试从一个特定的哲学立场出发,即从自然主义的立场出发,分析二十世纪的那些最主要的数学哲学流派。课程的大部分内容只假设听众具备一些关于高等数学及西方哲学的非专业的知识,但一部分内容需要听众至少还直观地了解数理逻辑中的一阶逻辑、可计算性理论与公理集合论的一些基本概念与结论(即不要求能够掌握精确的定义、理解相关的证明等等)。

Description:
This is an advanced course in the philosophy of mind. I have two aims. First, I will introduce the most important and difficult issues and debates in contemporary philosophy of mind. Second, I will encourage and help you to evaluate the competing theories of mind and to form your own approach to the problems of mind. My orientation is not historical, which means our focus will not be on the exposition of the works of the major historical figures like Plato, Aristotle, or Hegel, or even on their relevance to contemporary debates. Rather, we will place the problems raised by mental phenomena in the context of a scientific or naturalistic worldview, and see if we can successfully find for minds a place in the natural world. Topics include varieties of dualism, varieties of physicalism, computationalism, consciousness, free will, personal identity, etc.
