主讲人简介：刘畅，北京大学光华管理学院应用经济系博士研究生。主要研究领域：政治经济学、发展经济学、经济史和公共经济学。在Journal of Comparative Economics、International Tax and Public Finance、《中国社会科学》等中英文学术期刊上发表论文多篇。

Abstract：This paper studies the economic consequences of China’s Opening to Foreigners’ Counties (OFC) policy in 1985-91, which eased foreigners’ travelling restrictions in several counties. Our difference-in-difference strategy exploits the stepwise enforcement of the reform to achieve identification. We find sizable positive effects of the reform on economic development. Further investigation attributes international knowledge diffusion as a candidate mechanism. We also find that FDI firm entrants mediate the international knowledge diffusion process.
